About our language immersion classes:

• All of our enrichment classes are total immersion; the teachers speak and conduct all of the activities entirely in the target language.  They reinforce the verbal language by using visual and tactile materials  such as pictures, puppets, and props, which also go along with our play-based learning philosophy.  Teachers also rely on acting, gestures, and facial expressions to engage their students’ interest and encourage participation.  The children gradually and naturally begin to comprehend and interact in the target language.

Language options

• The DC location offers classes in Spanish, French, Chinese, Arabic, and Portuguese; the Falls Church location offers classes in Spanish, French, and Chinese.

Age Group Descriptions:

Ladybugs (18-36 month olds):

• Let’s move! Our toddlers enjoy exciting classes that make use of their unbounded energy and openness. Children will develop fine and gross motor skills while enjoying developmentally appropriate music, art, and movement activities, completely in the target language.  A parent or caregiver should attend the class with students.

Honeybees (3-4 year olds):

• Our preschoolers will focus on speaking and listening skills as they become more comfortable with the target language through the full-immersion model. They participate in circle time, puppet play, storytelling, crafts, movement, and music.

Dragonflies (5-6 year olds):

• In classes for our school-aged children, the focus is on speaking and listening skills, but we begin to introduce pre-reading skills as well.  Children will be prompted to produce more language and will focus on more complex activities while still enjoying a dynamic, play-based program.

Grasshoppers (6+ year olds):

• Our oldest learners take their knowledge a step further with a full-immersion, culture-based program that provides a challenging yet nurturing and fun environment.  Enrollment in these classes requires a placement test and/or instructor approval.  Please contact us prior to registering.
